Hello! Have you ever thought about making a salt crystal?
Salt crystal or Sodium Chloride are the pieces of salt with a rocky texture.
Ingredients:
100 ml boiling water
1 cup of any kind of salt
50 ml food coloring (optional)
1 pencil
1 200ml jug (narrow mouth or width lesser than the length of pencil taken)
1 roll of string
Setup:
Take a length of string and tie it to the exact centre of the pencil. Fill the jug with 100 ml of boiling water and add the salt. Stir it till the salt gets dissolved. Place the pencil on the mouth of the jug and let the string dip in the water. After couple of minutes, keep the wet string in a safe corner and let it remain there without any disturbances for 3 weeks or more. Later, we can observe that clumps of salt have crystallized on the string. You can paint the crystals if required.
What I think about this experiment
This experiment shows the crystallizing property of salt i.e., the salt water clumps up and forms crystals when dried.
If it crystallizes on the string, then the string can be worn as bracelets or necklaces or used for decorative purposes. I really want to try more experiments soon…
