Hello everyone! I know it has been a long time since I wrote but I’m back with a new game called Undertale. Undertale is a 2d pixelated game which had been released 2015 and has been made by Toby Fox. It is based on a story that humans and monsters had a war in which humans proved victorious. Then they banished the monsters to the underground and many years later a human (the player) falls down the only way to enter the underground. This is where my article begins. The player finds a room with a talking flower called Flowey. Flowey tries to kill the player but Toriel, the caretaker of the ruins steps in and stops Flowey. I’m going to stop here so I don’t spoil the rest of the game. Undertale also has a unique turn-based battle method, which is a board where the monster and the player fight. The player is portrayed as a heart which changes color based on which soul attack a monster chooses. Below this board there are 4 options: Fight, act, item, and mercy. Fight allows you to attack the monster, act allows you to talk to the monster or interact with it, item is self-explanatory allowing you to consume or use an item, and mercy gives you 2 options, spare the monster, or flee.

Bullet board

1-3 monsters can appear on the bullet board and attacks are visual entities which damage you when you touch them. The monsters are trying to take your soul because with 7 human souls they can break the barrier which traps them in the underground and the already have 6. Undertale also has 3 different endings.

Genocide route

The genocide route means you kill every monster you can attack. This ending has a boss fight with the games most iconic boss which is Sans. He is a skeleton who makes bad jokes and can make your soul blue which makes the battle physics based, he can also summon blue bones which won’t deal damage if you stand still. He can also use Gaster blasters which represent a canine skull which can shoot a laser in the direction it is facing. After you kill him the game ends.

Neutral route

In this route you can kill monsters but do not need to kill them all and make sure not to make any friends. The first boss is Asgore. He is a human who has horns. He attempts to take the players soul as he has all the 6 souls with him. He first destroys the mercy button so you cannot escape. He then continues attacking with his trident. When he is on low health, Flowey sprouts up near him, kills him, absorbs his and the 6 human soul (except the player’s ;p) and becomes Photoshop Flowey, a disturbing looking creature who can attack using the human souls. It also eventually gets killed by the souls.

Pacifist route

This route you should not kill anything and make as many friends as you can. The boss in this level is Asriel Dreamurr. He is the son of Asgore and Toriel. He absorbs all the monster souls and the six human souls and then morphs into the god of the hyper death, after a while he changes into his final form. Then eventually the player frees all his friends and Asriel’s true form and then wins the game. The player then meets all his friends and wins the game.

Asriel Dreamurrs Final Form

Overall, the game is pretty good. My favorite things are how the enemies have control over the game like shattering the options, stalling forever, or close the game itself (not crashing as they say something creepy before it closes.) it’s like it’s a puppet show you can interact with. And my absolute favorite this is that regardless there being no ai the conversations with NPCs on the pacifist route is as humane as you can get. Well, that’s it for me though and remember I have not told a lot of things as I don’t want to spoil the whole thing. Anyway Bye (Don’t forget to subscribe to my channel btw).
